Nerd Alert

For those of you who know my husband, you will know exactly why this video reminds me of him.

He's racing down the street in a high-speed chase in a souped-up wheelchair.

Chris could do it better.

Addicted

Okay, seriously?

I am loving knit skirts.

They are suuuper comfy, and suuuuper easy to make.

So.....I made another one.

Remember the black and white striped skirt I made out of t-shirts?

Well I made another.

I went to the thrift store, bought a white tee and a floral patterned....well, Chris calls it a muumuu.

$5.

The teal shirt I already had. It has a stain near the neckline so I never wear it, but I loved the color so much I couldn't throw it away. {so glad i didn't.}

Seriously, guys, you have to make one.

<3

Also, we tried to go see The Hunger Games on Saturday afternoon {as much fun as they are, midnight showings require a 2-hour nap beforehand....mebbe we're old}, and it was sold out. I almost cried. Here in Cedar things never sell out.

Sigh.

Until next week I guess.

Kitchen Chair Redo

I love bright colors. They make me happy. And I've always wanted a green kitchen.

It just seems so cheerful and...warm.

Plus I am totally a veggie person. {does that relate....?}

So far, since we're poor and living in a rental, there aren't a lot of things I can permanently change in our kitchen, but I've got green plants, and green decor. So you at least get the idea.

And nowwwwww......I have green chairs.

So AWESOME.

If you have chairs like ours, it's preeeeeetty dang simple to recover them.

1. Take a cushion and measure how much fabric you will need. Be sure to wrap the measuring tape under the sides where you will be stapling the fabric underneath.

Here's our cushion:

Yes. Beige. Wonderful.

2. Get you some fabric! Cut it according to your measurements for each chair. Lay a piece flat and center your cushion, making sure the fabric is right-side down.

Please ignore the mauve carpet in the background that I hate with every fiber of my being.

3. Pick a side to start on and staple the fabric up and over the side of the cushion.

Monitor use of the staple gun carefully.

4. Staple fabric the same way over opposite side, being sure to pull it taut.

5. Fold and staple your corners. Here's how we did it:

6. Staple the remaining two sides. Flip it over....

....and admire!

Chair skeletons.

Lovely!

I love the pop of color it adds to our kitchen.

Things I've Been Up To As Of Late

I looooooove spring break. It {usually} combines two of my favorite things:

Spring. And a break.

Both the Christopher and I were able to get work off through Thursday, so we headed out of town Saturday night and enjoyed the better part of the week relaxing {and letting our families spoil us at yummy restaurants}{the corned beef at Cracker Barrel is amazing, by the way}.

We were able to congratulate a couple of our friends at their wedding reception in Milford, where I got to show off this epic-ly awesome skirt I made.

Check out the tutorial. Easiest skirt you'll ever make.

We also went to my brother's choir concert {he is a stud}.....

....went skiing....

....and my most favorite was when I got a pedicure with my mother-in-law and ended up with these bright salmon flops to keep my toes pretty.

And by way of other news, I made this for my door:

this for my kitchen:

and these for my living room:

{tutorials here and here.}

Wow. This makes me sound super busy.

And happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! I'm not Irish...but I wonder if I can convince my dear husband to kiss me anyway?

Sweet & Sour Meatballs

I've been meaning to post this recipe forever.

Because it's really and truly delicious.

{and easy.}

{and i love sweet and sour.}

Meatballs
6-8 servings

  • 1 egg
  • 1 envelope dry onion soup mix
  • 1 tsp. garlic
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 2/3 C. Italian seasoned bread crumbs {or plain breadcrumbs w/ some italian seasoning mixed in}
  • 3/4 C. evaporated milk

Preheat oven to 350. In a large bowl, combine egg, soup mix, garlic, and pepper. Mash in ground beef and bread crumbs with a fork. Stir in evaporated milk {mixture will be well-moistened}. Roll into approx. 24 golf-ball-size meatballs and place in nonstick-sprayed 9x13 baking dish so meatballs do not touch. Cover with foil or glass lid, bake for 28-35 minutes.

Sweet and Sour Sauce
2-3 servings

  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar {add another if you like your sauce sweeter like i do}
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
  • 1/3 C. rice vinegar or white vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp. soy sauce
  • 2 tsp cornstarch, dissolved in 5 tsp water
Combine sugar, ketchup, vinegar, and soy sauce in a bowl and whisk. Pour into saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Pour in the cornstarch mixture and keep stirring until the mixture thickens up. Pour into bowl and serve!

We put the meatballs over rice, mixed in some big chunks of pineapple [mmmmm...drool.}, green peppers, and carrots, and poured the sauce over the top. I love this recipe because I usually have most of the ingredients already on hand!

So. Good

These Tennis Shoes Were Made For Walkin'

Are you just loving the weather here in Utah lately?! It's been beautiful. {although i hear it might snow soon....ARGH.}

Chris & I went for a walk on Sunday afternoon, and of course I had to drag along my camera and tripod just in case we happened upon some photogenic opportunity. {bless that boy for putting up with me. bless him.}

And per usual, I periodically dragged him to the side of the trail and made him pose with me. Isn't marriage great?!

With the amount of times I've ungracefully fallen off of my own feet, I'm sure glad he was holding my hand here.

Doesn't every girl want to be carried off into the sunset?

Dang I got lucky.

"Crazy girl, don't you know that I love you?
I wouldn't dream of going nowhere
Silly woman come here let me hold you
Have I told you lately I love you like crazy, girl?"
